Clustering Method Startup Panel and Quick Tab

Cluster Analysis

Ribbon bar. Select the Statistics tab. In the Advanced/Multivariate group, click, Mult/Exploratory and from the menu, select Cluster to display the Clustering Method Startup Panel.

Classic menus. On the Statistics - Multivariate Exploratory Techniques submenu, select Cluster Analysis to display the Clustering Method Startup Panel.

The Startup Panel contains one tab, Quick, which contains options to select the desired clustering method for the analysis. Refer to the Cluster Analysis Overviews for brief descriptions of the different clustering techniques. See also the Cluster Analysis Index and Examples.

Joining (tree clustering). Select Joining (tree clustering) to display the Cluster Analysis: Joining (Tree Clustering) dialog box. Use these options to create tree diagrams of clusters. See Joining for more detailed information on this method.

K-means clustering. Select K-means clustering to display the Cluster Analysis: K-Means Clustering dialog box. Use these options to move objects around a user-specified number of clusters with the goal of minimizing within-cluster variability while maximizing between-cluster variability. See K-means clustering for more detailed information on this method.

Two-way joining. Select Two-way joining to display the Cluster Analysis: Two-Way Joining dialog box. Use these options to simultaneously cluster cases and variables. See Two-way joining for more detailed information on this method.

OK. Click the OK button to display the dialog box corresponding to the analysis method selected on the Quick tab.

Cancel. Click the Cancel button to close the Startup Panel without performing any analysis.

Options. See Options Menu for descriptions of the commands on this menu.

Open Data. Click the Open Data button to display the Select Data Source dialog box, which is used to choose the spreadsheet on which to perform the analysis. The Select Data Source dialog box contains a list of the spreadsheets that are currently active.

Select Cases. Click the Select Cases button to display the Analysis/Graph Case Selection Conditions dialog box, which is used to create conditions for which cases will be included (or excluded) in the current analysis. More information is available in the case selection conditions overview, syntax summary, and dialog box description.

W. Click the W (Weight) button to display the Analysis/Graph Case Weights dialog box, which is used to adjust the contribution of individual cases to the outcome of the current analysis by "weighting" those cases in proportion to the values of a selected variable.
