LOWESS Smoothing

LOWESS smoothing is a method of smoothing data (pairs of x-y data). A local regression model is fit to each point and the points close to it. The method is also sometimes referred to as Robust locally weighted regression. The smoothed data usually provide a clearer picture of the overall shape of the relationship between the x and y variables. LOWESS smoothing can be performed in STATISTICA via the fit options available on the various Graph dialog boxes - Advanced tabs (see for example the 2D Scatterplots dialog box - Advanced tab). For more information, see Cleveland (1979, 1985).
