Variable Bundle Manager

Click the [Bundles] button in variable selection dialog boxes or variable specification dialog boxes to display the Variable Bundle Manager. Use the options in this dialog box to create, edit, delete, and rename variable bundles as well as to generate a spreadsheet containing bundle information.

The first pane of this dialog box displays the names of all bundles that have been defined for this spreadsheet. The second, larger pane displays the contents of the bundle which is currently selected in the first (smaller) pane. If both of these panes are empty, then no bundles have been created for this spreadsheet.

New. Click the New button to display the New Bundle dialog box. Enter a name for the bundle in the Bundle name box, then click the OK button, to display a single variable selection dialog box, which is used to select the variables to include in your new bundle. Once you have selected the variables, click the OK button. The new bundle will now be displayed in the Variable Bundles Manager and in all future variable selection dialog boxes when this spreadsheet is active.

Edit. Click the Edit button to display the Select variables for bundle dialog box. The variables that are already a part of the currently selected bundle will be selected in this dialog box. You can deselect any that you want to remove from the bundle and add additional variables. Once you have made the necessary changes, click the OK button to update the bundle.

Delete. Click the Delete button to remove the currently selected bundle from the spreadsheet. When you click this button, a dialog box will be displayed prompting you to verify that you want to delete the bundle. Click Yes to delete the bundle. Note that deleting a bundle does not remove the actual variables from the data set. To remove variables from a data set:

Ribbon bar: Select the Edit tab; in the Clipboard/Data group, click Delete and from the menu select Variables to display the Delete Variables dialog box, where you specify the variables to delete.

Classic menus: From the Edit - Delete submenu, select Variables to display the Delete Variables dialog box, where you specify the variables to delete.

Rename. Click the Rename button to display the New Bundle dialog box. Enter a new name for the currently selected bundle in the Bundle name box, then click the OK button.

Output to Spreadsheet. Click this button to create and display a spreadsheet containing information about the bundles for the active data spreadsheet. Each bundle will be represented as a variable in the output spreadsheet. The variable values for this spreadsheet will be the actual variable numbers that are included in the bundle. For example, if the bundle Targets contains Var4, Var9, Var32, Var33, Var34, Var35 and Var119, then the output spreadsheet will contain a variable called Targets, with seven cases. The variable values will be 4, 9, 32, 33, 34, 35, and 119.

Import Bundles from Spreadsheet. Click this button to display the Select Spreadsheet dialog box, which is used to browse to and select a spreadsheet that was previously saved with bundles in order to import those bundles into the currently open spreadsheet.

OK. Click the OK button to accept the changes made in the Variable Bundle Manager and return to the variable selection dialog box or variable specs dialog box.

Cancel. Click the Cancel button to close the Variable Bundle Manager without making any changes to the current bundle specifications.
