By Group

In addition to the Batch (ByGroup) Analysis, in Statistica you can generate output for each unique level of a By variable or unique combination of multiple By variables at the individual results level. This makes it very easy to compare results of an analysis across different groups. For example, a Multiple Linear Regression model can be specified and calculated independently for subsets of cases defined by each unique value of variable City (Dallas, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Chicago...).

To select one or more by variables, click the By Group button in the analysis dialog box.

This displays the By Group dialog box.

Grouping Variable(s): Click the Grouping Variable(s) button to display the Select By Variables dialog box. You can specify one or more by variables. If more than one by variable is specified, Statistica will generate results for all unique combinations of the by variables.

Enabled: Select the Enabled check box to enable the generation of output for each unique combination of by variables selected.

Output to single folder: Select the Output to single folder check box to route output to a single folder within a workbook. If this check box is cleared, output will be partitioned to one folder for each unique combination of by variables. This option is only applicable when output is being routed to a workbook.

Label Outputs. Select this check box to label all results (spreadsheets and graphs) with the unique combination of by variables.

Output "All Groups" results: Select this check box to generate output for all of the data.

Accumulate tabular results in a single spreadsheet: Select this check box to direct all output to a single spreadsheet.

Sorting of Groups: Use the options in this group box to specify the type of sorting to use in the output.

Unsorted: Select this option button to specify that the By group analysis displays the results in the original order of by-group categories ( the same order in which the categories were encountered in the data set).

Ascending: Select this option button to sort the analysis in ascending order. For text variables, this order is alphabetically defined; for numeric variables numerical values are used to do the ordering. For numeric variables with text labels, the numeric-only values are sorted numerically and before any text labels; text labels are sorted to the end of the list, and are themselves sorted alphabetically ( an ascending-order sorted by-group list might be: -1 0 2 "Average" "Beyond Specs" "Outside Bounds").

Descending: Select this option button to sort the analysis in descending order. For text variables, this order is alphabetically defined; for numeric variables numerical values are used to do the ordering. For numeric variables with text labels, the text labels are sorted first and in alphabetical order; the numeric-only values are sorted to the end of the list of all by-group values, and is sorted numerically ( a descending-order sorted by-group list might be: "Outside Bounds" "Beyond Specs" "Average" 2 0 -1).

OK: Click the OK button to create the By variable output.

Cancel: Click the Cancel button to close this dialog box without creating By variable output.
