Batch (ByGroup) Statistics Browser/ Batch (ByGroup) Graph Browser

The Batch (ByGroup) Statistics Browser and the Batch (ByGroup) Graph Browser are the main organizing "hubs" of STATISTICA Batch (ByGroup) Analysis. They organizes all nodes (more than 100 for statistics analyses and 45 for graphs at the present time), which contain, enhance, and combine in useful ways the full functionality of the STATISTICA system and its analytical library of routines and programs, both for model building and data analysis and visualization. The organization of files in the browser into folders and subfolders can be fully configured and customized, and different configurations can be saved under different names.

Ribbon bar. Select the Statistics tab. In the Tools group, click Batch By Group to display the Batch (ByGroup) Statistics Browser.

Select the Graphs tab. In the More group, click Batch (By Group) to display the Batch (ByGroup) Graph Browser.

Classic menus. On the Statistics menu, select Batch (ByGroup) Analysis to display the Batch (ByGroup) Statistics Browser.

On the Graphs menu, select Batch (ByGroup) Analysis to display the Batch (ByGroup) Graph Browser.

Both dialog boxes contain the same type of options (except for folders and nodes located in the left and right panes of the respective dialog boxes).

Node Browser Configurations

Each node (displayed in the right pane of the browser) is associated with a certain type of statistical/graph analysis. The nodes are grouped together in folders and subfolders, which are displayed in the left pane of the browser. Thus, for example, in the Batch (ByGroup) Statistics Browser, in the Basic Statistics and Tables folder, you can find the Descriptive Statistics node, which is responsible for computing various statistics of data such as mean, variance, etc. Note that the system is organized such that similar nodes reside in the same folder. For example, both Standard and Stepwise Multiple Regression nodes are placed in the Multiple Regression folder. Similarly, 2D Histograms and Scatterplots are placed in the 2D Graphs folder. Such default options can, however, be reconfigured if desired.

Adding Custom Nodes to the Statistics Browser

The Help topic How to Write .SVX Scripts for Data Miner, STATISTICA Enterprise Server, and Batch (ByGroup) Analysis contains specific details and examples on how to write STATISTICA Visual Basic scripts (e.g., to call STATISTICA analysis procedures and routines), and how to make them available to the program, i.e., how to insert custom nodes into the Statistics/Graphs Browsers. In short, every node in the browser represents two different files: A STATISTICA Visual Basic (SVB) program file (file name extension .SVX), which contains the "logic" that wraps the STATISTICA functionality (analytic routines, data management operations, etc.) into moveable objects (i.e., nodes) that can be inserted as a node in the browser, and a parameter file (file name extension .DMI), which contains descriptions and values of the parameters for the particular node (e.g., number of iterations, method of estimation, etc.). To add a custom node to a browser, create those files (see How to Write .SVX Scripts for Data Miner, STATISTICA Enterprise Server, and Batch (ByGroup) Analysis), place them into the desired directories of your STATISTICA installation, and then use the standard Windows tools to drag the parameters file (.DMI file) from Windows Explorer into the browser. Alternatively, you can use the Nodes menu command Import New Node to locate the respective .DMI file and place it into the current browser configuration.

Restoring defaults. The Batch (ByGroup) Statistics/Graphs Analysis is shipped from the manufacturer with a set of more than 100 statistics and 45 graph nodes arranged into a default set of browser folders. If you want to restore an instance of a browser to default configuration (e.g., after you inadvertently deleted some nodes), simply click the Browser Option button to display the Browser Options dialog box, and click the Restore Defaults button.

Current Node Browser Configuration. In the upper-left corner of the Statistics/Graphs Browser is a drop-down menu containing all currently available browser configurations. To change the current configuration, select the desired configuration from the menu; the left (folder) and right (node) panes of the browser will automatically repopulate to show the available folders and nodes for the chosen configuration.

Browser Options. Click this button to display the Browser Options dialog box, which contains a list of existing browser configurations, including the default browser and any other configurations that you may have previously saved as well as various other options to create new browser configurations, etc.

Options. See Options Menu for descriptions of the commands on this menu.

OK. Click this button to start a statistics/graph analysis after selecting a node from the browser. This action will take you to a parameter dialog appropriate to the type of the analysis you have selected from the browser.

Cancel. Click this button to close the ByGroup Statistics/Graphs Browser. You can also close it by clicking on the standard close-window button (icon) in the upper-right corner of the dialog. Note that the current (last) selection of nodes (i.e., currently highlighted) will automatically be saved and the next time you open this configuration, it will reappear in the same state as it was when you closed it.
